Celtic Christianity, Spa, etc.

Thick walls, Narrow paths
BlogPostSunday30Aug09
13.30pm Good old tearjerker movie last night – “Losing Isaiah”. 8 o’clock service at St. Multose this morning. A rainy day so far – a good one to stay in and study. Yes, I’m back into the student mode and for good purpose. The priest of St. Multose is coming over for coffee on Tuesday morning to discuss Celtic Christianity with me so I am immersing myself in what writings on the subject are here in the apartment. He has already suggested a book that I have on order and some CD’s which I hope to find this afternoon at the book store. This is a subject of great interest to me in part because the Celts spiritual beliefs and practices are so closely allied to nature. Trees, in particular, play a big part in their practices.
Two evening events this week coming up – Tuesday evening movie about Hotel Rwanda and Wednesday evening a talk by the hotel manager hero from Rwanda – both sponsored by the Kinsale Peace Project, about which I know no more yet.
Talked with reservations at the Inchydoney Spa and made appointments for two treatments – neither of which I’ve had. On Saturday I’ll have something called their “Island Spa Tropical Ritual – vanilla and coconut body polish, coconut ocean float, and oil application.” On Monday I’ll have the “Cooling Hot Stone Body Facial.” Then, I’ve been told I can also make an appointment for riding a horse on the beach after I arrive on Friday. And, they do have internet connection so presumably I’ll be able to continue the blog postings.
Margie is going to drive me over to Inchydoney Friday and she’s planned a couple of stops to sightsee on the way, so I’m looking forward to actually seeing something rather than just “driving by” as Jim and I did much of the time. Just kidding – Jim – on the other hand, we covered a lot of Ireland on those drives and I’m grateful for that!
Stay tuned. It ain’t over yet!

  1. just catching up on your travels and thought I'd say hi! the spa sounds like it is going to be wonderful! wish I could be there...

Our 2nd sailing weekend was good. Dillon didn't go with us this time, but Tommy and I sailed both Saturday and Sunday. We went out three different times on Saturday. the last time out, the wind was stronger than any time out before. we were whizzing along... the rudders were singing... we managed to fly a hull... when suddenly the mainsail fell down on us! Oops! we'd snapped the main halyard and learned more about our boat than we expected. we sailed the boat back to our campsite with just the jib and thought we were done sailing for the weekend.

Sunday morning we towed the boat around to the boat landing and pulled it out onto the trailer. When we got the mast down, we found we had just enough halyard left to retie it and try again... we also figured out what a couple of gizmos were all about on the halyard and the mast. the long and short of it was that if we'd had the sail properly up, we wouldn't have snapped the halyard in the first place.

Well, we stepped the mast again and relaunched the boat just in time to have the fresh morning breeze die down. so we played around for an hour or so in pretty light winds then back to the camper for lunch and a nap.

we wanted to go out for another sail in the afternoon, but the lake was just as calm as could be - waterskiing weather, not sailing weather... finally it got late enough in the day that we decided we'd better tow the sailboat around to the ramp to take it out. well... decided we'd try sailing it instead - we could paddle it if we had to and the boat ramp wasn't all that far.

we eased it around under sail and had the boat ramp in sight when the breeze picked up again. we gambled that it wouldn't die on us, and headed out into the lake. got lucky and spent another 45 minutes or so sailing around before we had to come in so we could prepare the boat for trailering home before dark. Sure would be easier if we could drive it back and forth with the mast up...

well, that brings you up to date on our sailing adventures. hope we can get you out on the water with us sometime! have a wonderful, wonderful time at the spa and let us know how your sightseeing goes. Love you!
